Civil War on the Western Border: The Missouri-Kansas Conflict,1855-1865 This website engages Civil War buffs, scholars, students, and local residents in research and discussion on the Missouri-Kansas Border War that shook the region from 1854 to 1865. Through a collaborative effort among libraries, museums, and historical societies across the greater Kansas City region, the project provides free access to selected primary source materials and adds unique interactive features and a thematic layer of original scholarly essays and topical encyclopedia entries. Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area tells the stories and builds awareness of our region’s past, present, and future: the settlement of the western frontier, the Kansas-Missouri border war and Civil War, and the enduring struggle for freedom. Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum Established in 1957, the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum preserves and provides access to President Truman’s historical materials. Through engaging exhibits and programs, the Library aspires to reach a broad and diverse audience in a continuous effort to keep President Truman’s life and legacy alive, emphasizing his ideals of citizenship, learning, and service. Jackson County Historical Society The Jackson County Historical Society is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving the written, oral, and physical legacy of this county. We do this by maintaining physical collections and promoting the study, appreciation, and interpretation of local and regional history. Jackson County Parks + Rec Jackson County Parks + Rec owns and operates Fort Osage National Historic Landmark. At 22,000 acres, Jackson County Parks + Rec is the third-largest county park system in America. The parks system features outstanding lakes, marinas, campgrounds, historic sites, hiking and biking trails, and a public golf course. Midwest Genealogy Center The Midwest Genealogy Center (MGC) is one of the United States’ preeminent resources for family history, providing access to almost three-quarters of a million on-site materials. MGC features 52,000 square feet of space that houses all of the free resources needed to research your family history. MGC’s collections offer resources for genealogy research that span the United States and countries around the world. MGC also houses a uniquely expansive circulating collection and almost completely open stacks. Missouri 2021 Bicentennial The mission of Missouri 2021 is to promote a better understanding of Missouri and its regions, communities, and people, both past and present. The Missouri Bicentennial provides opportunities for citizens to celebrate, explore, and share perspectives on the state’s rich history and culture. Missouri Valley Special Collections The Missouri Valley Special Collections (MVSC) consist of the non-circulating local history and genealogy resources of the Kansas City Public Library as well as the Library’s archives. Its mission is to preserve our area’s heritage and provide access in meaningful ways to the collections and materials. The 1st Infantry - Clemson's Company The 1st Infantry – Clemson’s Company (Living history or portrayals of Regular Infantry, US Rangers and dependents) has set the standard over the years regarding Garrison events including piling (stacking) of arms, Funerals, court-martial, Blockhouse defense demonstrations, light infantry and artillery drill among the many other scheduled activities. Garrison members have reproduced Soldier enlistment forms, Standing Orders of the 1st Infantry, Sergeant Warrants, etc. The Pendergast Years: Kansas City in the Jazz Age & Great Depression It is the aim of this project to move beyond existing nostalgia for the Pendergast Years, uncover facts and documentation, and prompt new research to arrive at a deeper understanding of the period. These resources will allow students, researchers, and the general public to draw meaningful lessons from this transformational period in Kansas City’s history. The State Historical Society of Missouri The mission of the State Historical Society of Missouri is to collect, preserve, publish, exhibit, and make available material related to all aspects and periods of Missouri history. SHSMO also seeks to generate interest in and appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of the state and its people through education and outreach.
