Heavy rainfall during the summer of 1951 caused extensive flooding in the Kansas River Basin. In Kansas City, at the mouth of the Kansas (Kaw) River, the river crested at fourteen feet above flood stage. The flood waters also affected Sibley, causing extensive damage to homes and farms in the Sibley Bottoms. Below, are photos of the flooding in Sibley.
