A small group of historians are racing to preserve the little-known dialect of Missouri French. There are only around thirty people left that natively speak Missouri French. Missouri French has the distinction in being one of only three French dialects that originated in the United States. This dialect can be found in southwest Missouri along the Mississippi River in old mining towns and was widely used well into the 20th century.
