Kansas City Power and Light announced earlier this week, to retire six generating units at three of their power plants. The units that KCP&L plans to retire are located at Montrose, Lake Road and Sibley Stations. This move furthers the company’s commitment to a sustainable energy future and balanced generation portfolio.

As of now, the current date for the retirement of the three Sibley generating units are scheduled for December 31, 2018.

The Sibley Generating Station, originally owned by Missouri Public Service, has been in operation since 1960. Kansas City Power and Light purchased Aquila and the Sibley Plant in 2007.
